R.E.A.D.er Update

Dear R.E.A.D.ers,

I now have a new library!  Well, two of them, actually. Mommy changed schools and now she works 15 minutes from home.  Know the best part?  I get to go to school with Mommy on Fridays!  I see the kids who come for classes in the library. During Mommy's planning time, we visit classrooms for drive-by petting. It's a long day, but I LOVE all the petting. I promptly fall asleep as soon as we pull out of the parking lot to head home.

My new official R.E.A.D. library is at the Smyrna City Library. We are one of the three CAREing Paws teams who visit at this library. Every Wednesday from 4:30-5:30 p.m., you will find a dog and kids reading at this library. Of course, I have to share with Walker and Keeper, but we're cool. If you are in grades 1-6, we would love to R.E.A.D. with you!  There's no cost involved. All your grown-up has to do is sign a permission slip. And, you're in. You'll receive small incentives each week you attend and after 10 visits, you can earn a hardcover fiction book of your choice!

Good to see our R.E.A.D.ers this week - Reagan, Ashley, Sean, Bronson and Abby!

Boomer's upcoming visits

Hey kids,

Join us this Thursday (7/24) at the Kemp Memorial Library to listen to Mommy read a couple of my favorite stories.  One is sure to be a big hit with the kids.  The second story is my favorite, though.  It's written especially for therapy dogs.  We'll end our visit by personalizing bookmarks for you to take home.

You know that's my job right?  Yes, dogs can have jobs.  Some work with police, some work with rescue, some work on farms and others are on TV.  Not me.  I cheer people up and help kids improve their reading skills. I average 3 visits a month between our visits to the library, Ridgeview Institute and other community events.  You know I'm working when you see me strutting around with my special scarf on.  Mommy recently demonstrated to a group of kids exactly how I go into work mode once I see my scarf.  I know I'm off duty when Mommy removes the scarf.  Then, I can go play like a wild dog if I want.  I have to be on my best behavior when I'm working.  Sometimes it's hard.  I am a dog, after all.

Hope you've been reading this summer.  The sign-up book is out for READing dog visits through December.  Normally, we are there 1st and 3rd Wednesdays, but Mommy had to adjust some of the weeks due to her work schedule.  Hope you understand.

Pawfully yours,

Boomer

Hi READers! We're back!

Two months ago, we moved into my new dog house. It's nice.  I can sit on my couch, see my mommy in the kitchen and look straight out the front door.  I can also sit in the upstairs hallway and monitor my humans in the family room, while keeping an eye on the four dogs next door.

I am still going to "school" (doggie day care) one day a week, but my new dog house is close to daddy's work, so he comes home to eat lunch with me most days.  Mommy and I have resumed READing at the Kemp Memorial Library on the first and third Wednesdays after school.  Because my new dog house is farther way from mommys' work and the library, mommy takes me to "school" on the days we READ. Hopefully, I don't smell like a dog when I READ with you.

Tomorrow, I'm trying something new as a therapy dog.  Mommy and I are going to do our first hospital visit. I have been to great-grandma's nursing home a time or two, but I've never been to a hospital.  My friend Daisy will be visiting with us, so at least I'll have a familiar furry face with me.

Before I forget - the library still has a couple of openings for READers in November and December.  Please see Ms. Carmella at the library to sign-up.  Remember, our new start time is 4:15 p.m. and our last READer starts at 5:00 p.m.

Pawfully yours,

Boomer

Programs @ Kemp Library coming week of June 3rd

My mommy and I will be at the Kemp library for our normal R.E.A.D session on Wednesday and back on Thursday morning for a special presentation.  Mommy is going to share some of my favorite stories, talk about dog safety (especially in the summertime) and then kids will get to do a craft activity.   Oh, and I'll get lots of petting out of the deal.

I don't know what the craft activity is, but she did mention something about it being suitable to count for one of the four projects required by students who participate in the school district's Dig into Reading program.  I think she plans to have a popsicle party for her students and I'll get to be the guest of honor. And boy, do I love popsicles!

My current doghouse is under contract.  All I know is that means I get to stay home now during the day and strangers won't be wandering through my doghouse anymore.  I wasn't too pleased at having to go to school every day for nearly three weeks either.  Mommy said we have one more hurdle to clear before my doghouse would be considered SOLD.  We'll know next week if that hurdle has been cleared.

Meanwhile, my new doghouse is almost done!  We stopped by this evening and saw the painters still at work.  Kitchen cabinets are finally here, too!  Mommy and Daddy are hoping that everything will be finished in time to move from this house to the new one.  I'll get to go to camp for a few days while everything gets packed and moved.

Enjoy your summer and keep on READing!

Pawfully yours,
Boomer

READ Alert!

Mommy scheduled our summer reading sessions with Miss Carmella at the library.  Can you believe June is already filled and only a couple of slots are left for July?????  We won't be back again until after Labor Day.

Seems I will be getting a new doghouse after all.  Mommy said something about moving in mid-July, but if my current doghouse sells sooner than that, we'll be at grandma's for the summer.  She lives far away, so you'll only see me when it's time to READ.

Pawfully yours,

Boomer

Come R.E.A.D. with me!

If you want to read to me before school lets out, you need to call Miss Carmella NOW to sign up for a time?  The only date left with any slots available is April 17th.  The library takes a break from programming in May, so we won't be R.E.A.D.ing in May.

Mommy is working with Miss Carmella on our summer reading schedule.  She's thinking about scheduling even more  visits since she and Daddy decided to postpone summer vacation.  She said I'd still go to camp for a few nights this summer, but why would I go to camp if they're not going on a trip?  Mommy said something about a new doghouse.

What do you think that means?
